Benjamin Frederick and Samuel Alexander, two participants of the third BCH Training workshop and hosts of the radio Program, "Your Health/Your Choice" on PrayzFM, Saint Lucia, made the heart of the Biosafety Coordinator very glad as they shared information on the Biosafety Clearing House, its importance and the need for Saint Lucians to use the BCH to educate themselves on Living Modified Organisms(LMOs) and Genetically Modified Organisms that are used as food, feed or processing. They dedicated the bulk of their program on Sunday the 24th June to the BCH and the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. They expressed their immense gratitude for being invited to the workshop and for the wealth of information that they had gathered and how the BCH is an information resource on GMOs/LMOs.
In their very humourous and energetic fashion, they enlightened the public to the need for them to check out the BCH for themselves. Mr. Dunstan Demile, a fellow participant of the training, from Consolidated Foods Limited called in to the program, congratulated Benjy and Sammy for what they were doing and expressed the point that the Caribbean countries need to take a unified approach to the importation of LMOs/GMOs. Benjy promised to get the e-mail group of the participants at this workshop going at the earliest opportunity and to help spread the message of the BCH and LMOs/GMOs over the length and breadth of Saint Lucia. The Biosafety Coordinator also called to express her appreciation for how the two hosts had taken the ball and run with it. With the input of these vibrant and dynamic trainees, it is hoped that Saint Lucia and the Caribbean will develop a new paradigm on biosafety.
