In its continued drive to support capacity building in the Caribbean sub-region in the area of biosafety, the Regional Biosafety Project hosted a workshop on “Food and Feed Safety Assessment of GMOs” from 20-22 September 2016 in St. Kitts. This workshop, which was facilitated by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), was attended by representatives from 9 of the 12 project countries. Topics addressed included, among other things: international approaches to GMO food/feed safety assessment, internet resources useful for food safety assessment, toxicity assessment of GM food/feed and compositional analysis.  In additional to the theoretical aspects covered in the workshop presentations, participants also had the opportunity via practical exercises in breakout group sessions, to get a better grasp of the areas covered.
