The workshop included the following themes:
The role played by the Ministry of Environment in protecting biodiversity as well as the implementation of the National Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation, and the role played by the Ministry in working on the issuance of national legislation that would face any potential threats to the environment.
Draft biosafety law in the circulation of genetic engineering products, and the importance of genetic engineering applications for mankind especially in health care field
Mechanisms for the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, as in accordance with the Constitution, any international convention or protocol ratified shall be considered as national law until such time as national legislation is promulgated.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations as follows:
• Preparing a letter from the Ministry of Environment to the Customs Authority to activate the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
• Prepare the PIC form and place it on the Biosafety Clearing-House
• Organizing training courses for customs officials on the use of the BCH
