Dr. Angela Lozan obtained her PhD in the field of Animal Ecology
from the Kiev Academy of Sciences, Ukraine in 1983. She passed the
postgraduate education on Environmental policy in Woodrow Wilson
International Center, US (2001-2002), the training courses on
Biosafety in GENOK, Norway (2005), Missouri,St Louise, US
(2009). She served as a research officer in the
Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova since
1978. In 1992 she was seconded to the Institute of Ecology of the
Ministry of Environment, to be the Scientific Secretary and the
Head of Laboratory on Biocenology. In 2007 she served as a
environmental adviser to the State Cancellary of the Government. In
2002 being involved to the Minsitry of Environment as
the Head of Biosafety Office and the National Coordinator for the
UNEP-GEF Biosafety Projects on Capacity Building, ex.NBF,
Implementation NBF, BCHI, BCHII projects. She is also Associate
professor at the State University of Moldova, teaching the
Biosafety course for undergraduate and graduate students. She
possess significant skills, abilities and knowledge in Biosafety
policy and regulation formulations, institutional setting up,
decision making and public information, etc. She also has
sufficient scientific and technical abilities to carry out risk
assessments and environmental impact assessments of Living
Modified Organisms. She is member of the National Biosafety
Commission, CP Task Force, BCH National Focal Point. Ms A. Lozan
contributed elaboration of National Biosafety Law and other
enforcement regulations. She is author and co-author of a
significant number of 80 publications, including 9 books related
GMOs and Biosafety. She has a valuable international experience in
GMOs regulation being involved in AHTEG on Risk assessment, expert
groups under CP on Biosafety on socio-economic, liability and
regress, capacity building and oth.
