Dr. Amir Mousavi obtained his Ph.D in molecular biology from Nara Institute of Science and Technolgy (Japan). Faculty as well as Director of International relations office of the National Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Tehran. Acting as liaison officer of the International Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Iran. Received international grants from IFS, ICGEB as well as Austria-Iran Wheat Genomics program. Appointed as the member of Biosafety Committee, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (2009-Present) and Board of Trustees, Plant Research and Training Organization, Ministry of Agricultural Jihad (2003-05). Elected as member of board of Iranian Genetics Society (2004-2007); Iranian Biotechnology Society (2009-2013). Editorial board, Iranian Journal of Biotechnology (IJB) and Journal of Biosafety. Research areas include cloning and transformation of glyphosate-resistance genes into plants; Molecular detection of GM crops/foods.

Main responsibilities
I am currently acting as the director for division of Agricultural Biotechnology in NIGEB. My major scientific activity has been focused on development of transgenic crops (mainly on herbicide tolerant trait) as well as detection of genetically modified seeds and foods. I have been acting as a member of biosafety ministrial committee since 2008.
