Profile of the Expert
1. Dr. Hafashimana  holds a BSc. (Forestry) of Makerere University - 1987; a MSc in Plant Biodiversity and Taxonomy (Edinburgh University) - 1994 and PhD Makerere University (majoring in Forest Biodiversity) - 2004.

2. His working experience is in Forestry, Biodiversity Conservation, Ecology, Biosafety and Multilateral Environmental Agreements. He has represented Uganda in meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and all the negotiations associated to the Cartagena Protocol for the past 23 years.

3.  He has been a Biodiversity and Biosafety consultant both at national, regional and international levels, spanning a number of countries and national, regional and international organizations. He has been a Regional Advisor on Biosafety under the UNEP/GEF Project on assisting eligible countries participate in the Biosafety Clearing House. He is widely traveled both in Africa and worldwide.

He is also a member of the National Biosafety Committee.
