Biological function
Silk Proteinase Inhibitor 2 (SPI 2) is a Kazal-type serine protease inhibitor that was identified within the silk of Galleria mellonella. Based on its effect on bacterial and fungal proteinases, and on the developmental profile of its production, it is assumed that it protects silk proteins from microbial destruction.
