The transgenic Eksotika papaya is developed by inserting an antisense portion of the aminocyclopropanecarboxylate oxidase (ACO2/ ACC oxidase) coding sequence resulting in the antisense suppression of endogenous ACC oxidase enzyme. This results in delayed fruit ripening by inhibiting the production of ethylene gas.
The transgenic Eksotika papaya was also transformed with the nptII gene. The NPTII enzyme confers resistance to kanamycin and is used to select transformed cells.

The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
