Description
NK603 x MON810 x 4114 x MIR 604 maize is the product of the conventional breeding of each of the parental organisms to produce maize that expresses each of cry34Ab1, cry35Ab1, cryIF, PAT, Cry1Ab, mCry3A, PMI and EPSPS. The expression of these genes are expected to confer resistance to Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, and tolerance to glufosinate herbicide and glyphosate herbicide.
Recipient Organism or Parental Organisms
The term Recipient organism refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas Parental organisms refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

Further details
Notes regarding the genetic elements introduced or modified in this LMO
DNA insert from NK603, vector PV-ZMGT32:
NK603 contains a form of the plant enzyme 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) that allows the plant to survive the otherwise lethal application of glyphosate.

DNA insert from MON810, vectors PV-ZMBK07 and PV-ZMGT10:
MON810 contains a truncated portion of a synthetic form of the cry1Ab gene. Two constructs PV-ZMBK07 and PV-ZMGT10 have been used for transformation, but molecular analyses showed that MON810 does not contain any element from PV-ZMGT10 construct and only the elements from construct PV-ZMBK07 have been integrated into its genome. MON810 contains one integrated DNA consisting of P-e35S, I-Hsp70 and cry1Ab. The terminator of the nopaline synthase (nos) gene was lost due to a truncation at the 3' end of the gene cassette during genome integration and is, therefore, not present in MON810.

DNA insert from MIR604 vector pZM26
Cry3A gene was modified for enhanced expression in maize and such that the amino acid sequence of the synthetic version of Cry3A is the same as the native protein, except for the modified serine-protease recognition site. The pmi gene encodes the enzyme phosphomannose isomerase (PMI) that allows the plants to utilise mannose as a carbon source and is used as a selectable marker.

DNA insert from 4114, vector PHP27118:
An insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize. Insect resistance is conferred by the cry34Ab1, cry35Ab1 and cryIF genes from the common soil bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis, and glufosinate-ammonium herbicide tolerance through the pat gene from Streptomyces viridochromogenes.
