Result of the decision
  • Approval of the import/use of the LMO(s) with conditions
Conditions
Some confinement measures:
- Fertile plant material has to be transported and stored in closed and clearly labelled repositories at any time outside the release site. The label needs to distinctively describe the LMO. During transport any loss and spillage shall be avoided.
- Machines in contact with LMO must be cleaned after use in order to minimize the possibility of unintended loss and spillage of seeds.
- Genetically modified oilseed rape seeds stored outside a laboratory have to be stored in closed and clearly labelled containers. Inspection and control authorities must be informed about the storage site.
- No longer required harvested seeds of genetically modified oilseed rape must be inactivated by appropriate measures. Finely chopped straw of genetically modified oilseed rape plants has to be spread on the release site.
- After completion of the field trial an inspection of the release site and the surrounding area [5 m] for five years on transgenic oilseed rape volunteers, their removal and disposal before anthesis has to be accomplished during the growing season periodically. The inspection period has to be extended for another year if oilseed rape volunteers were observed.
- Measures must be taken to ensure the localization of the release site during the inspection period.
Reasons
To comply with requirements of Directive 2001/18/EC, Gentechnikgesetz (German Gene Technology Act): reduce possibility of GMO spread/establishment.
Does the decision involve field trials?
Yes
Does the decision involve commercial release?
No
