Characteristics of the protein coding sequence
Endochitinase 42
EN
Endochitinase 42 randomly hydrolyses N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminide (1->4)-beta-linkages in chitin and chitodextrinsis, which are major structural components of the fungal cell wall.

Additional Information
Based on the cDNA of endochitinase 42, from the fungus Trichoderma harzianum, which occurs as a parasite on various economically significant phytopathogenic fungi a synthetic form of the gene, cThEn42(GC), was synthesised.  The genetic sequence of the synthetic fungal endochitinase gene was codon-optimised to include a 65% GC-content to ensure expression in the barley.
