Hevea brasiliensis was modified to express the scFv4715 recombinant antibody, which is intended to bind to S. gordonii coat protein, the causal agent of dental plaque/cavity, with the aim to prevent tooth decay. Expression of the scFv4715 gene in Hevea brasiliensis allows for the commercial production of this protein for pharmaceutical purposes.

Hevea with scFv4715 also harbours nptII gene that confers resistance to kanamycin, which was incorporated in the growth media to select transformed callus after co-cultivation with Agrobacterium.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
