Potato modified for resistance against Potato Virus Y

No
The genetically modified potato plants constitutively express a mutated fragment of the NIb gene of the Potato Virus Y, which, in its native form, codes for a RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The modification is expected to confer resistance to PVY.
EN
The term “Recipient organism” refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas “Parental organisms” refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

    Terminator
A mutated sequence of the NIb replicase of the Potato Virus Y is expressed under the control of the 35S promoter and termination sequence of the Cauliflower Mosaic Virus.

The mutated sequence has a deletion at the C-terminus (approx. 400 nt) and at the N-terminus (6 nt), and an internal shift in the reading frame affecting 14 amino acids, leading to a non-functional gene product.
