Description
Sugarcane was modified with the insertion of gene cry1Ab to confer resistance to sugarcane borer,
Diatraea saccharalis
. The gene encoding neomycin phosphotransferase II, which confers resistance to aminoglycoside antibiotics such as kanamycin, was also integrated into the sugarcane as a selection marker.
Recipient Organism or Parental Organisms
The term Recipient organism refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas Parental organisms refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.

Notes regarding the genetic elements introduced or modified in this LMO
Sugarcane is vegetatively propagated for commercial production. There is minimal likelihood of transgene introgression via pollination.
CTB141175/01-A is a cultivar specific event. Southern blot analysis and sequence analysis indicated that multiple expression cassettes were integrated into the CTB141175/01-A event.
Southern blot analysis up to 6 generations indicated that all insertions were stable across several vegetative propagation cycles.
Western blot results confirmed the presence and integrity of Cry1Ab and NPTII proteins and absence of any other non-intended proteins.
