The Expert Council on Safety of Genetically Engineered Organisms of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus, based on the conclusion of the State Safety Expertise, discussions, comments of the members of the Expert Council on the admissibility of release of transgenic red clover to the environment for confined field trials on the trial field adopted recommendations on the inadmissibility of the transgenic clover line release. The decision based on the need for a more comprehensive study of the possibility of DNA sequences horizontal transfer to nodule bacteria that are symbiotic with clover.
