Profile of the Expert
Kine Rautio Øverland holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Biotechnology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The thesis research included molecular characterisation of genetically modified strawberry plants, made resistant to grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) by way of cisgenesis. The research was the conclusion of an interdisciplinary EU-funded project: "Sustainable production of transgenic strawberry plants. Ethical conseqences and potential effect on producers, environment and consumers", which included collaborators from the Netherlands, Norway and Germany.
Ms Øverland also holds a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford. Title of thesis: "Slowly but surely towards sustainable quality of life? A case study of the Cittaslow movement". Øverland has since 2015 worked with risk assessment and risk management of GMOs at the Norwegian Environment Agency. Before this she worked with R&D for a private company in the oil and gas sector, with the aim of developing environmentally friendly tracer solutions using biological molecules.
