Profile of the Expert
Valentina Rastelli studied environmental sciences at the University of Viterbo, and graduated in 2002. She completed her studies with a Master in Global Environmental Protection and International Policies. She joined the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) in 2003, and since then she has worked on environmental risk assessment, monitoring and coexistence of genetically modified organisms. Since January 2015, nominated as one of the Italian experts for the Roster of experts under the Cartagena Protocol.
Main areas of work: European GMOs authorization process; risk assessment and monitoring of GMOs; participation in studies on environmental effects of GMOs; New Breeding Techniques (regulatory framework and risk assessment); assistance development and implementation of national and international Regulatory Frameworks for Biosafety.

- one of the Italian experts for the Open-Ended Online Forum on Synthetic Biology under the Convention on Biological Diversity;
- participation in the ISPRA Working Group on the Nagoya Protocol and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, under an agreement between ISPRA and the Italian Ministry for the Environment;
- one of the Italian experts for the Roster of experts under the Cartagena Protocol.
