National Policy on Biological Diversity 2016-2025 is a revision from the previous biodiversity policy of 1998. This policy aims to provide direction and framework to conserve biodiversity and use it sustainably in the face of increasingly complex challenges now and in the future. This is a shared responsibility as biodiversity is a cross cutting issue. This policy has five overarching goals supported by 17 national biodiversity targets and 57 actions and will be implemented within ten years (2016-2025). All actions have measurable key indicators to monitor progress.  This policy was formed to fulfill Malaysia's obligations under the Convention of Biological Diversity as well as safeguard our valuable biodiversity. Target 12 is dedicated to biosafety.
