PRODUCTION OF ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENT 1 encodes a putative MYB domain
containing transcription factor involved in anthocyanin metabolism
and radical scavenging. PAP1 promotes the synthesis of
phenylpropanoid-derived compounds such as anthocyanins and
proanthocyanidin, probably together with GL3 and BHLH2.
Additionally, PAP1 was demonstrated to interact with JAZ proteins
to regulate anthocyanin accumulation and is essential for the
sucrose-mediated expression of the dihydroflavonol reductase gene.
