Additional Information
Additional Information
Nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) is an antagonist of the host cellular anti-viral dsRNA mediated responses and the activation of interferon genes. The protein also regulates gene expression by preventing the export of mRNA into the cytoplasm through the suppression of 3' processing of the pre-mRNA. Therefore, host cellular protein synthesis is turned off. Viral mRNAs are not affected as the viral polymerase produces the 3' poly(A) tail. Research has also suggested that NS1 induces nucleolar stress through epigenetic alterations of rDNA promoters.
