Activity details
Description of the initiative
Training workshop on "Access and sharing information through Biosafety Clearing House (BCH)" was held from 16-20th December 2019 at the Agriculture Biotechnology Center (AgBC), University of Peradeniya, Kandy. The aim of the workshop was to make aware key stakeholders on how to access information in the BCH and use information on LMO/GMOs relevant to their work. A series of 5-day workshop was held to 30 participants on each day to customs and plant quarantine officers (3 days) and Seed inspectors/agriculture officers (2 days). The topics covered are: (i) overview of BCH central portal, (ii) Sri Lanka BCH, (iii) information resource on biosafety regulations for GMOs/LMOs in Sri Lanka, (iv) demonstration of interactive self-learning modules on Cartagena Protocol & BCH and (v) interactive case studies on using BCH.
The training was conducted by the Chief General Manager, Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi, India who is the international consultant for BCH and the National Consultant for BCH web support. The training was organized and sponsored by the National Biosafety Project
