The Public Research and Regulation Initiative, PRRI, offers public researchers a forum through which they are informed about, and can participate in, negotiations on international agreements that are relevant for modern biotechnology, such as Meetings of the Parties (MOPs) to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB).

The work under the PRRI is conducted by a number of working groups: 1) Public Sector Research in Modern Biotechnology 2) International Agreements such as the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Convention on Biological Diversity, EC Directives and Regulations and the Aarhus Convention. 3) Specific topics, such as Liability, Risk Assessment, GURTS 4) Outreach to non-English speaking public researchers .
Specific biosafety activities include: a) Informing public researchers about biosafety regulations and international agreements on biosafety; b) a Guide and training on notifications and risk assessment
