El Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, Servicio Fitosanitario del Estado, resolvió aprobar al Sr. James Lee Olson, cédula de residencia número 175-138176-11402 en calidad de presidente de la empresa Semillas Olson S. A,  la introducción de semilla de algodón transgénico conteniendo genes que codifican para las proteínas Cry1Ac, Cry2Ab y CP4-EPSPS, se le conoce con el nombre de Bollgard II x Roundup Ready Flex. Estas proteínas les confieren resistencia al herbicida glifosato y tolerancia a algunos artrópodos de la clase insecta, del órden lepidópera. El objetivo es el de multiplicar semillas de algodón transgénico, bajo las condiciones de la autorización de las áreas respectivas y del cumplimiento de las medidas de bioseguridad que se dicten para cada caso
