Confers resistance to the antibiotics erythromycin, azithromycin,
clarithromycin, tetracycline, and roxithromycin, via methylation of
a highly conserved adenine residue in the 23s rRNA leading to a
conformational change in teh ribosome that prevents binding of
erythromycin other macrolides, lincosamides and type B
streptogramins.
