This Law establishes legal and organisational principles for ensuring safety in genetic engineering activities and is aimed at protection of the environment and human health and fulfilment by the Republic of Belarus of its international commitments in this field
This Law regulates relations in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities.
This Law does not cover relations related to the use of genetic engineering to human beings, their organs and tissues, handling of pharmaceutical preparations, as well as the production and use of raw and finished food products and animal fodder produced from genetically engineered organisms or their components.
The Law includes 7 Chapters and 29 Articles.
This Law regulates relations in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities.

Safety in genetic engineering activities shall be achieved through:
adoption of regulatory legal acts and technical regulatory acts in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities;
issue by specially authorized State authorities of Permits for import, export and release of genetic engineered orgainisms and State registration of genetically engineered organisms placing in the market;
establishment and observance of requirements on safety in genetic engineering activities;
planning and implementation of measures on ensuring safety in the field of genetic engineering activities;
performance of State Safety Examination of genetically engineered organisms;
ensuring control in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities;
account in the field of safety in genetic engineering activities;
establishment of legal measures for violation of legislation requirements to safety in genetic engineering activities;
other measures on safety in genetic engineering activities according to legislation.
