Brief description of the document including objective and scope:
The purpose of this law is:
a. to protect humans, animals and the environment from abuses of gene
technology;
b. to serve the welfare of humans, animals and the environment in the
application of gene technology.

This law applies to the handling of genetically modified animals, plants and other organisms, as well as their metabolites and wastes. For products obtained from genetically modified organisms, only the regulations on
labelling and provision of public information apply (Art. 17 und 18).
