Additional Information
Roundup Ready maize event NK603 has obtained general release clearance (commercial planting/placing on the market) under the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) Act, 1997 (Act No. 15 of 1997).

The South African Government does not require the information listed in Article 8 and the advanced informed agreement procedure in Article 10, for the imports of NK603 maize.

The procedure to follow is to complete the application form for "importation of a LMO that has obtained general release or commodity clearance under the GMO Act".

Please note that every import into SA is still subject to any other applicable legislation in SA, with particular reference to phytosanitary requirements under the Agricultural Pest Act, 1983.

The application form for “importation of a LMO that has obtained general release or commodity clearance under the GMO Act" is available on the website of the Department of Agriculture at http://www.nda.agric.za/docs/geneticresources/geneticcontrol.htm
