Minutes of the AHTEG Bureau meeting, 24 April 2009 [#965]
Dear all,

The minutes of the AHTEG Bureau meeting held on 24 April 2009 at the CBD Secretariat are available at the “Document Exchange” section (http://bch.cbd.int/onlineconferences/docs_ahteg_ra.shtml) of the AHTEG Portal under “Documents of general interest to the AHTEG”.

I would like to take this opportunity to draw attention to the “Document Exchange” section, which allows participants to share documents of interest to the AHTEG and Sub-working Groups. To upload a document, please locate the topic under which the document best fits and click on “+ add”.

Please let me know if you have any question.

Best regards,
Manoela

RE: Minutes of the AHTEG Bureau meeting, 24 April 2009 [#966]
Dear Manoela, Dear All,

Thanks for the minutes and thanks to CBD Sec for creating this AHTEG portal. This is most excellent.

I propose we also use this forum to inform the group members of up coming meetings that may be of relevance for the work of the AHTEG or its sub groups.

Here are two meetings:

- Seminar “ Ecological Impact of Genetically Modified Organisms” (EIGMO), 14-16 May 2009, Rostock, Germany. http://www.iobc-wprs.org/pub/index.html. IOBC/WPRS Working Group ‘GMOs in Integrated Plant Production’. This workshop will discuss among others effects on non target organisms. I am speaking today at this conference and will also alert the participants to the existence of AHTEG and on line conferences.

- ICGEB-TWAS-Biosafenet workshop on plant abiotic stress tolerance Rome, Italy, 10-12 June 2009, FAD Headquarters. The event is the combination of the final workshop of the joint ICGEBTW AS Programme on Plant Biotechnology and of a seminar we are organising on behalf of "Biosafenet", an EC-funded project that acts to enhance networking among European scientists and institutions involved in biosafety research, including the biosafety of plants tolerant to abiotic stress.  This group will no doubt produce material relevant to Kazuo’s group. Might be worthwhile for Kazuo to contact Decio Ripandelli (decio@jcgeb.org)

PRRI members will participate in both meetings and I have requested they collect as many materials as possible, which I will forward through this portal.

Finally, in case any of the AHTEG SWGs has specific questions about certain applications of genetic modification, please be informed that the network of PRRI includes hundreds of scientist from all over the world who are involved in a huge variety of biotech work, and that the PRRI Secretariat will be happy to channel specific, brief questions to a specialized expert.

Regards

Piet
