How to participate in the conferences
Individuals interested in participating in the conferences are invited to send an e-mail to:
capacitybuilding.forum@cbd.int. A confirmation containing a password will be sent by e-mail to all accepted participants. In order to ensure equitable participation in the conference, the discussion will take place both online through the BCH and via e-mail.
Individuals wishing to participate via e-mail will receive copies of the posted messages by e-mail and may send their replies to specific messages to the moderator, at
capacitybuilding.forum@cbd.int, who will post those messages on the conference website, as appropriate.
The conferences will be conducted in English only.

Moderation
The conferences will be moderated by the CBD Secretariat and/or other designated persons. All messages posted to the conferences will be screened by the moderator before they are posted to the public website of the conference. The intent is to ensure that the messages are relevant and consistent with the
rules and guidelines for the conferences. The moderator shall reserve the right to edit long and unclear messages. He/she will also reserve the right to refuse posting any message that is inconsistent with the objectives, rules and guidelines of the conferences.

Rules of the Conference
- All participants that make contributions to the conference shall do so in their personal capacity unless they explicitly state that their submissions represent the views of their government or organization.
- All participants shall exercise respect and courtesy towards all other participants, including those whose views may differ from theirs.
- Participants shall not post abusive, libellous or misleading messages / materials / links.
- Each Participant shall be solely responsible for any information, materials, or links to any materials, that he/she posts or disseminates electronically # By signing up for the conference, participants shall have expressly authorised the CBD Secretariat and the moderators of the conferences to summarise and disseminate all or part of their postings to the conferences as part of reports or any other document(s) that may be subsequently prepared by the Secretariat.
- The conferences shall be conducted in accordance with the rules of procedure and the common practices for meetings under the Protocol.

General guidelines for participation in the Conference
Participants are expected to:
- Briefly introduce themselves when posting their first message, including their name, title, country, institutional affiliation, current responsibilities, main area of expertise and, where applicable, the recent relevant capacity-building initiatives they have been involved in.
- Keep their messages short, concise and focussed. Each message should not exceed 300 words (or no more than a full screen long).
- Ensure that the messages are relevant to the topic/question being discussed.
- Exclude the original text of the previous posting when responding to a posted message in order to allow participants with limited internet connectivity to easily access and download the messages
- Make the subject header as descriptive as possible about the content of the message so that other participants can easily decide which messages to read and respond to.
- Maintain the original subject-heading when responding to someone else’s posting.
- Make sure they do not post or send any files that contain viruses, corrupted files or any other similar file deficiencies.
