Article 26 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
The Parties to the Protocol, in decision BS-V/3, mandated a number of activities on socio-economic considerations to take place during 2011-2012 (see the
relevant section of the decision). This portal on socio-economic considerations is intended to be the source for information on these activities.
A tentative timeline is available under the
calendar of activities.
The final activity was a Workshop on Capacity-building for research and information exchange on socio-economic impacts of Living Modified Organisms under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, which was held from 14-16 November 2011 in New Delhi, India.
More information is available on the page for the
workshop.
The first activity was a series of online discussion groups on socio-economic considerations, which ran from 21 March to 8 May 2011. The themes and questions considered by the discussion groups are available under the
list of discussion groups. All the messages posted to the discussion groups are available in the
archive.
The second activity was a series of regional online real-time conferences on socio-economic considerations, which were held in June and July 2011. Details and the transcripts of the conferences are available on the
page for the real-time conferences.
Please remember that participants for the workshop on capacity-building for research and information exchange on socio-economic impacts of living modified organisms will be selected from among those who take part in the online discussion groups and the regional online real-time conferences.
