Testing of the "Guidance on Risk Assessment of Living Modified Organisms"
Further to my notification SCBD/BS/CG/MPM/jh/77649, dated 23
September 2011, I am pleased to inform you that the deadline for
submitting results of the testing of the overall utility and
applicability of the Guidance on Risk Assessment of Living Modified
Organisms has been extended to 15 December 2011.

Second National Reports on the Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety Available in the Biosafety Clearing House
In decision BS-V/14 on Monitoring and Reporting, the Conference of
Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties (COP-MOP), requested
Parties to submit to the Secretariat their second national reports
on the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
Accordingly, I am pleased to announce that, to date, the
Secretariat has received 124 National reports, all from Parties to
the Protocol.

SURVEY: EVALUATION OF THE ACTION PLAN FOR BUILDING CAPACITIES FOR THE EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CARTAGENA PROTOCOL ON BIOSAFETY
At its first meeting held in February 2004 in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia, the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of
the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP)
adopted an Action Plan for Building Capacities for the Effective
Implementation of the Protocol. Its objective is to facilitate the
development and strengthening of capacities for the ratification
and effective implementation of the Protocol at the national, sub
regional, regional and global levels.

Submission of background materials relevant to the Guidance on Risk Assessment of Living Modified Organisms
In decision BS-V/12, the Parties to the Protocol requested the
Executive Secretary to update the common format for submission of
records to the Biosafety Information Resources Centre (BIRC) of the
Biosafety-Clearing House in order to link the records relevant to
risk assessment to specific sections of the Guidance on Risk
Assessment of Living Modified Organisms.

Communiqué: Hyderabad ready to host the world biodiversity community
I am pleased to inform you that the Executive Secretary of the CBD
paid a visit to India from 5 to 8 October 2011 to discuss
preparations for the sixth meeting of the Conference of the Parties
serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on
Biosafety (COP-MOP/6) and the eleventh meeting of the Conference of
the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP/11), to
be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in the
State of Andhra Pradesh, India, from 1 to 19 October 2012.
