Mongolia’s Second National Workshop was held on 15-17 May 2019 in Ulaanbaatar. The workshop was organized by National Biosafety Committee and Mongolian Biotechnology Association within the contaxt of the UNEP-GEF Project Sustainable Capacity Building for Effective Participation in the BCHIII.
There were 30 participants all from the Mongolian General Agency for Specialized Inspection, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and University of Agriculture. Participants to this workshop included Government representatives with responsibilities for implementing th Biosafety Protocol, as well as experts in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology, etc.
The participants were indeed key stakeholders, and they had clear understanding of how to make Mongolia’s BCH run, but since this was their first time to encounter the BCH, most of them indicated (through the discussions, comments and the group work results) that more capacity-building and public awareness is needed to help their office and other stakeholders have proper understanding of LMOs and the use of the BCH. Second Workshop facilitated by Mr. Edmund Revilla (Regional Advisor).
