The nominee holds the B. Sc. and M.Sc. in Agriculture major in Plant Pathology. She has been with the government service since 1976 as researcher in corn diseases, forest diseases, mangrove ecosystem and technology transfer of Environment and Natural Resources. She has given special order as alternate representative of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) since1992 up to present date. Since then, she was involved in the biosafety assessment of proposals submitted to the NCBP for contained experiment of GMOs and also for the limited field trial of the first GM crop in the country, the Bt corn. Throughout those years, she has participated locally and internationally in several trainings on biosafety and risk assessment. Likewise, she was involved in the development of Guidelines on Planned Release of GMOs and PHES as well as the Biosafety Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment of GMOs.
