Immunological and DNA based detection methods have been developed for detection of cry1Ac protein. Central Institute of Cotton Research, Nagpur is the referral laboratory for the same.

Additional information
The approval for environmental release for three Bt cotton hybrids expressing cry1Ac gene (MON 531 event) was intially for a period of three years(2002-2005). Subsequently the approval was extended after performance evaluation and currently several Bt cotton hybrids containing the same events are under commercial cultivation in cotton growing states across the country.
