The transgenic maize line DAS-59132-7 was genetically modified to resist Coleopteran insects (e.g. western corn rootworm, northern corn rootworm and Mexican corn rootworm) and to tolerate herbicides containing glufosinate ammonium.

Notes regarding the genetic elements introduced or modified in this LMO
The cry34Ab1 and cry35Ab1 were cloned from Bacillus thuringiensis strain PS149B1 and the coding sequence of both genes has been adapted to the codon usage in maize as to achieve expression in the maize plant.

Southern blot analysis indicated that a single insert of the transformation cassette was introduced into the modified maize. A 450bp truncation of the 5' end was detected, which resulted in a 200bp truncation of the Ubiquitin gene promoter. The absence of the spectinomycin and tetracycline resistance genes from the vector backbone was shown by hybridizing the Southern blots with spc and tet probes.
