Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is the Nodal Ministry for dealing with all aspects related to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) / Living Modified Organisms (LMOs) and also is the Nodal Ministry for Implementation of International Conventions and Protocols like Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CPB) etc.
Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) a Statutory Committee as per Rules 1989 is the Apex Regulatory Body for dealing with all applications related to GMOs/ LMOs and is housed in MoEFCC.
