General information
Name of the gene or DNA sequence
R-2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionate dioxygenase
Alternate Genetic Element Name (synonyms)
Category of DNA sequence
  • Protein coding sequence
Is the gene / DNA sequence is a synthetic molecule?
Donor organism
Donor organism
Sphingobium herbicidovorans - SPHHE
Donor organism point of collection
The protein sequence of (R)-dichlorprop dioxygenase was used as a scaffold in the engineering of the protein.
Characteristics of the protein coding sequence
Biological function
The Sphingobium herbicidovorans R-2,4-dichlorophenoxypropionate dioxygenase was engineered to have increased thermostability and enzymatic activity. The enzyme inactivates quizalofop (active against monocots) and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid herbicides using α-ketoglutarate and molecular oxygen to produce the inactivated herbicide, succinate and carbon dioxide. The enzyme may also act on other aryloxyphenoxypropionate and synthetic auxin herbicides.
Related trait(s) or use(s) in biotechnology
  • Resistance to herbicides
  • Tolerance to quizalofop
  • Tolerance to 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
