An intended effect of the introduced Rpi-blb1 and Rpi-blb2 genes from Solanum bulbocastanum is an increased ability of the potato to withstand infection by Phytophthora infestans.
Recipient Organism or Parental Organisms
The term Recipient organism refers to an organism (either already modified or non-modified) that was subjected to genetic modification, whereas Parental organisms refers to those that were involved in cross breeding or cell fusion.
Solanum tuberosum - Potato, SOLTU
Point of collection or acquisition of the recipient organism
Three different parental potato varieties (p698, p835, p880) served as starting material for transformation.
Characteristics of the transformation process
Derived from pPZP200
Techniques used for the modification
  • Agrobacterium-mediated DNA transfer
Introduced or modified genetic elements
Some of these genetic elements may be present as fragments or truncated forms. Please see notes below, where applicable.
Ti plasmid left border repeat - Agrobacterium tumefaciens - Agrobacterium
Ti plasmid right border repeat - Agrobacterium tumefaciens - Agrobacterium
Acetohydroxy acid synthase gene - Arabidopsis thaliana - Thale cress, Mouse-ear cress, Arabidopsis, ARATH
Resistance to herbicides - Imidazolinone, Sulfonylurea
Nopaline Synthase Gene Promoter - Agrobacterium tumefaciens - Agrobacterium
Nopaline Synthase Gene Terminator - Agrobacterium tumefaciens - Agrobacterium
Phytophthora infestans Resistance gene 1 - Solanum bulbocastaneum - Nightshade, Ornamental nightshade
