This report includes a description of the organization and operation of Egypt’s biosafety system, and discusses the larger context for GMO commercialization. Recommendations emerging from this study include (1) specific suggestions for revising Egypt’s biosafety guidelines, (2) ideas for improving the functioning of national and institutional biosafety committees, (3) recommendations for strengthening biosafety review and decision making, and (4) developing means of actively disseminating information to the wider biotechnology community and the public.
