The Order establishes the main principles, methods and performance procedures for the activities related to the risk assessment of genetically modified organisms and genetically modified products, consisted of genetically modified organisms, posed to human and animal health, environment and agriculture.

The Order applies to all natural and legal persons, releasing into environment or placing to the market genetically modified organisms or genetically modified products in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. This order does not establish requirements for risk assessment posed to the human and animal health, environment and agriculture by medicines, vaccines, medical substances and veterinary compounds; genetically modified organisms and genetically modified products used for the purposes of contained use; as well as novel food produced from genetically modified organisms. This Order does not apply to the transit carriage of genetically modified organisms and genetically modified products through the territory of Lithuania.
