Online discussions: Biosafety Commitments for the Action Agenda for Nature and People to 24 October (extended)

Launched in November 2018, by the Governments of Egypt and China, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Action Agenda for Nature and People (Action Agenda) serves as a global mechanism to inspire, connect and mobilize actions for biodiversity and biosafety. The Action Agenda is an online platform and tool oriented towards catalysing non-state actors’ commitments (e.g. business sector, sub-national and local governments, non-governmental organizations, academia, youth, indigenous peoples and local communities, women’s groups, farmer communities and individuals) to generate future measurable impactfully commitments. The objectives are, among others, for: Actions for positive biodiversity gains by 2030; Enhanced profiling of non-state actors on the CBD website and social media platforms; Enhanced profiling of non-state actors during events at COP and COP-MOP; and Further actions to be inspired by others non-state actors.
The Implementation Plan and Capacity-building Action Plan for the Cartagena Protocol as well as the Global Biodiversity Framework to be achieved by 2030, Parties need the support from the public and society. The frameworks are expected to be adopted at the tenth Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties (COP-MOP 10) for Parties to the Cartagena Protocol and the fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 15) for Parties to the Convention on Biodiversity.
Before and after COP 15 and COP-MOP 10, there are opportunities to cooperate with actors across society to help reach biodiversity and biosafety goals. The business sector, sub-nationals and local governments and civil society must be part of the conversation because what is under discussion and what is agreed in the post 2020 Global Biodiversity Framework will need to be mainstreamed at the economic and policy levels, globally and nationally.
