Dr. Deeptha Amarathunga has over 15 years of demonstrated experience in successfully completing number of projects with several leading national and international organizations. Ha has sound knowledge in water science, environment, pollutant and agriculture through post graduate qualification, professional training and years of experience; proven expertise in research and development, including land and ocean interaction, river basins, aquatic environmental management, toxicology, limnology, soil & sediment, marine & coastal water quality, micro-plastic and waste water treatment. Also, he has demonstrated ability to develop complex strategic and policy frameworks and plans; proven experience in developing innovative solutions. In addition, he has acquired well-developed analytical skills including Chromatography, GCMS, FIA, Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), Stable isotope mass spectrophotometry etc. and proven ability to understand the big picture; Ability to deal with concepts and complexity comfortably, reason through problems and to draw conclusions and propose innovative solutions within diverse and multidisciplinary teams, and having many international /national level scientific publications

Conducting research on development of new methodologies and technologies (low cost) to improve inland and coastal water environment (treatment for waste & waste water), system for sustainable development, etc. Also, investigating pollution in inland and coastal water, marine debris, impact of soil/sediment to aquatic environment etc., are for sustainable management. Also, research on toxicological studies related to agricultural waste, aquatic fauna, micro-plastic and to reduce the pollution levels. In addition, River research are carried out to understand and discover the aquatic ecosystems, river basin management & hydrology, impact of land-use changes, impact on climate change and catchment management quality, and modeling.
