When cloned upstream of a coding sequence, the transit peptide of the ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) small subunit (rbcS) gene from Arabidopsis thaliana leads to significantly higher steady-state levels of the protein encoded by the coding sequence in leaves of transgenic plants.
