The commercial production of the GMOs will be conducted in the west and central part of the Netherlands in greenhouses. In this region commercial production of carnation occurs also. Wild relatives which can give viable progeny with carnation are absent in large area's of Europe, including Northwest Europe.

Risk of post-release selection for the GMO: Not likely. Risk of genetic exchange in vivo: only hybridisation with other cultivated carnation is possible. Outcrossing from cultivated carnations, often double flowered, is highly unlikely due to the structure of the flowers. From the GMO to other organisms in the release ecosystem: Not likely, field trials will be conducted in greenhouses.
Dus to withdrawal of the product by the consent holder ther permit is no longer valid as of 17 October 2006.
Test the commercial value of the genetically modified carnation with an improved vase-life.
