Information about the BioTradeStatus database

CropLife International (CLI) and the CBD Secretariat agreed to link certain information contained in the Biotradestatus.com database with information contained in the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) for the purpose of enhancing public access to agricultural biotechnology product regulatory approval and commercial availability information. The two organizations also agreed to display on the BCH website a brief description of the Biotradestatus.com database, a list of relevant definitions and a disclaimer about the information on Biotradestatus.com.

Biotradestatus.com is a website and database maintained by CropLife International (CLI) for participating biotechnology companies. Biotradestatus.com provides information to the public regarding certain agricultural biotechnology products that have been commercialized in at least one country. The information provided includes the market status and country authorizations for seeds derived through biotechnology that have been commercialized by participating companies for cultivation, food and/or feed use globally. Relevant information from Biotradestatus.com is being provided to the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH) in cooperation with CLI.

The following definitions of authorization information of the events contained in the Biotradestatus database.com and related icons are reflected in the BCH:

Authorized for: For the purposes of this biotradestatus.com, "Authorized for" indicates that the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country indicated has issued authorization(s) for intentional commercial release of an event or product in that country for the use as defined below. This database only includes countries that formally issue event or product authorizations.

Environmental/Cultivation: environmental authorization by the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country indicated for intentional environmental release of the crop which allows for cultivation of the product in that country. 

(This category does not include separate authorizations for research field trials or seed production, as biotradestatus.com only provides information on events that have been authorized for intentional environmental release and have been commercialized in at least one country).

 

import
Environmental/Import: environmental authorization by the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country indicated for the imported crop and/or living modified organism (LMO) for food, feed or processing use.
food
Food: crop or products thereof authorized by the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country for consumption by humans.
feed
Feed: crop or products thereof authorized by the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country for consumption by animals.
individual event
Refer to Individual Event Status: This product is a combined event. The authorization(s) by the appropriate regulatory agency (or agencies) of the country indicated may be found in biotradestatus.com under the individual event(s) listed with this product.
