The Portal on public awareness, education and participation was established to facilitate exchange of information on activities and to provide access to resources relating to the implementation of the different elements of the programme of work on public awareness, education and participation concerning the safe transfer, handling and use of living modified organisms (LMOs). The Portal also assists in advancing the implementation of the programme of work that was extended until 2020 with revised priority areas/activities at the eighth meeting of the Parties to the Protocol.
The Portal provides an overview of current and planned activities. It also contains resources to carry out these activities, including an
awareness survey template
that can be used to conduct biosafety awareness surveys. A
progress map
is made available that tracks and monitors progress in the implementation of the programme of work and its priority areas by Parties.
The Portal furthermore provides
resource materials
that are useful to support the effective implementation of the programme of work and its priority areas. As a result of the
online discussion on public awareness regarding LMOs
, held in 2018, a bulletin board was established to facilitate the exchange of resources relevant to public awareness.
An overview of past activities is provided in the
archive
.
