Wellcome message and point of clarification [#1485]
Dear Participants,

The 14 November version of the Draft guidance on RA&RM of LM Mosquitoes will be further discussed in this online expert forum. I invite all of you to join this discussion with enthusiasm. From the comments that I received from many of you it was clear that there are still many points that need further discussion, and the online forum gives us an excellent opportunity to do so.

I would like to call your attention to the following points of clarification:

- The guidance document on living modified (LM) Mosquitoes should be drafted in accordance to the risk assessment provisions of Protocol, namely its Article 15 and Annex III. As such, the draft guidance document on LM Mosquitoes should not focus on issues that are related to the decision-making process but that are not part of the risk assessment process (for example, socio-economic considerations, liability and redress, etc).

- This guidance document should focus on issues that are of particular importance to the risk assessment and risk management of LM mosquitoes and avoid repeating what is already addressed in the Roadmap. During this drafting stage, however, we should attempt to include as many relevant issues as possible and later, if necessary, exclude issues that are already stated in the Roadmap.

I am looking forward to a fruitfull interaction with you in the next two weeks.

Best regards,
Eliana
