To determine the likelihood that the consequences of a hazard may be realised we would have to measure the potential exposure of the receiving environment to the LMO. Exposure is therefore defined as "the contact between a hazard and a receptor. Contact takes place at an exposure surface over an exposure period".

“Exposure” means the contact between a hazard and a receptor. Contact takes place at an exposure surface over an exposure period (WHO, 2004).
