Once it is clear what these fundamental terms define, they can then be applied to characterising the main phases of a risk assessment

According to WHO (2004), a risk assessment process can be divided into four main phases:
  1. Hazard identification
  2. Hazard characterization
  3. Exposure assessment
  4. Risk characterization
