Workshop on socio-economic considerations

Paragraph 25 of decision BS-V/3 requests the Executive Secretary to convene a regionally-balanced workshop on capacity-building for information exchange on socio-economic impacts of LMOs with the following main objectives:
  1. Analysis of the capacity-building activities, needs and priorities regarding socio-economic considerations submitted to the Biosafety Clearing-House by Parties and other Governments, and identification of options for cooperation in addressing those needs; and
  2. Exchange and analysis of information on the use of socio-economic considerations in the context of Article 26 of the Protocol.

The Workshop on Capacity-building for research and information exchange on socio-economic impacts of Living Modified Organisms under the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety was held from 14 to 16 November 2011. The workshop was co-hosted by the Governments of India and Norway and was held in New Delhi, India.

Participants in the workshop were invited from among those who took part in the online discussion groups and the regional online real-time conferences, taking into account the need for regional and gender balance.
